ITINERARY
Day 1 Overnight flight to Lome in Togo. Days 2/3 Voodoo Villages Explore Lome’s fetish market with its eclectic display of religious and medicinal ingredients. Travel into the Savannah to remote voodoo villages and witness a traditional fetish ceremony. Cross the border to Benin and ride in a flat- bottomed boat along the Mono River, exploring villages along the banks. Day 4 Python Temple and Stilt Village Travel to the former colonial town of Ouidah. Learn about the slave history, visit the celebrated voodoo Python Temple and the Portuguese Fort. Take a boat across Lake Nokoué for a night in the stilt village of Ganvie and meet a local Bokono soothsayer. Days 5/6 Ancient Kingdoms and Gelede Ceremony In Abomey visit the palace complex of the Dahomey dynasty and the House of Pearls - where the walls have been built from human blood. Witness a Gelede mask ceremony in Cove and meet a local Oba (Yoruba King). Travel to Benin’s capital, Porto Novo: visit the markets, old Portuguese town and King Toffa’s Palace. Day 7 Fly to the UK.
