Accompanied by our specialist historians Tony Kapcia or Christopher Hull, we trace the revolutionary route along the length of the island from the Moncada Barracks in Santiago to Havana. Along the way we hike to Fidel Castro’s command post at La Plata in the Sierra Maestra Mountains, we visit Che Guevara’s mausoleum in Santa Clara and ‘La Plaza de la Revolución’ in the historic captial. We also travel to the historic Bay of Pigs – the site of the 1961 US invasion.

Day 1 Fly to Havana. Days 2/3 Santa Clara Visit Che Guevara’s Mausoleum and Museum. Explore the scene of the battle for the armoured train. Drive to Holguin. Days 4/6 Santiago Tour the city and see El Morro at sunset. Visit: the Plaza de la Revolucion, Santa Ifgenia cemetery, the Moncada Barracks and Finca Siboney. Day 7 Bayamo Explore the capital of the Granma province. Day 8 Granma Landing Visit the Museum and Las Coloradas Beach - where Fidel Castro and a small group of supporters landed from Mexico. Drive to Santo Domingo. Day 9 Santo Domingo Trek to Commandacia de la Plata - the mountain headquarters of the revolutionaries. Day 10 Sancti Spiritus Travel through the colonial city of Camaquey to Sancti Spiritus, following in the footsteps of Che Guevara’s long march. Day 11 Cienfuegos Drive through Valle Los Igenios and tour the cities of Trinidad and Cienfuegos. Day 12 Bay of Pigs Visit the site of the 1961 US invasion. Days 13/14 Havana Tour the capital including ‘La Plaza de la Revolución’, the Museum and ‘Old Havana’. Days 15/16 Overnight flight to the UK.
