This camping safari takes us from the source of the Nile to wildlife-rich nature reserves and volcanic lakes. We track chimps through the jungle in Kibale National Park and search for mountain gorillas through the dense undergrowth of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. We also sail across Lake Bunyonyi and float along the Kazinga Channel to view hippos, crocodiles and aquatic birds at close range.


ITINERARY


Days 1/2 Overnight flight to Entebbe. Drive to Kampala. Optional visit to the National Museum and Kasubi Tombs. Days 3/4 Kibale Forest National Park Day’s drive to Kibale. Take a guided walk to track chimps and explore the prolific wildlife in the wetlands. Days 5/6 Queen Elizabeth National Park Cross the Equator for game drives around the Crater Lakes. Board a motor launch on the Kazinga Channel to find hippos and aquatic birds. Days 7/10 Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Accompanied by an expert guide, spend a day searching for mountain gorillas. Optional guided walks. Days 11/12 Lake Bunyonyi Take a boat across the water to Bushara Island and enjoy a leisurely day. There is the option to canoe or visit a local school. Day 13 Lake Mburo A chance to see wildlife not seen in other parks such as zebra, eland antelope and impala. Days 14/15 White Nile Stop at the impressive Bujagali Falls. Discover the source of the Nile in Jinja. There is the option to raft, canoe or visit a community project. Days 16/17 Drive to Entebbe and fly to the UK. Note: The order of the overnight stops may vary due to the final allocation of gorilla permits by the Ugandan Wildlife Authority.

Enter the natural habitat of the magnificent mountain gorilla and see them at close range on an unforgettable long weekend in Rwanda. We trek across the volcanic slopes of the Virunga Massif and search for the primates hidden deep in the forests. We also meet local communities, stay in village mud huts and eat delicious food around a campfire.

ITINERARY


Days 1/2 Overnight flight to Kigali. Take a tour of the city including the 1994 Genocide Memorial Site. Drive to Ruhengeri. Day 3 Gorilla tracking Trek though the Virunga Massif in the Parc National des Volcans: it was here that American primatologist Dian Fossey devoted her life to researching the primates. With an expert guide, follow the tracks of the troops of gorillas and males silverbacks through the dense undergrowth. Expect to see golden monkeys and hear turraco birds chatter in the trees. In the afternoon visit Iby’iwacu Cultural Cillage, an initiative designed to improve the livelihood of communities around the park. Join in with traditional dancing, eat local food around the campfire and sleep in comfortable mud huts. Days 4/5 Virunga Mountains Enjoy the dramatic mountain scenery during a trip to the volcanic lakes of Bulera and Ruhondo. Return to Kigali and fly to the UK.
