We visit lesser- known Mayan sites such as Xunantunich and explore the impressive temples of Tikal (in Guatemala). ITINERARY


Day 1 Fly to Miami. Day 2 Fly to Belize City. Visit the Community Baboon Sanctuary. Drive to Crooked Tree Bird Sanctuary. Day 3 Lamanai ruins Travel by boat along the river to explore these remote Mayan ruins. Days 4/5 Placencia Visit the Mayan site of Altun Ha. Drive to Placencia. Free time to explore or relax on the beach. Days 6/8 San Ignacio Visit the Cockscomb Jaguar Sanctuary and continue through the Mayan mountains. Explore Xunantunich ruins. Optional walking and canoeing. Day 9 Tikal (Guatemala) Discover the great temples of Tikal that pierce the jungle canopy. Explore the Maya site with a local guide. Day 10 Belize City Drive back to the coast. Days 11/13 Caye Caulker Take a short boat ride to the idyllic island. Relax on the beach or snorkel in the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea. Optional tour to observe manatees in their natural habitat. Days 14/15 Travel by boat to Belize City. Overnight flight to the UK.

Uncover the rich history of the Maya Kingdom as we take a guided tour of the ancient metropolis Tikal, exploring the magnificent 20-storey high temples and pyramids. Travelling into the jungle we discover the palace of Palenque, surrounded by an intricate labyrinth of buildings. We also visit the spectacular ruins of Chichen Itzu, explore the ancient city of Copan and admire the well-preserved murals at Bonampak.


ITINERARY


Day 1 Fly to Guatemala City and drive to Antigua. Days 2/3 Copan Explore the colonial heart of Antigua. Cross the border to Honduras and travel to the ceremonial site of Copan for guided tour. Days 4/5 Tikal Back in Guatemala, visit the ancient ruins of Quirigua. Take a guided tour of the Mayan metropolis of Tikal and explore the magnificent 20- storey high temples and pyramids. Day 6 Flores Explore the Laguna Yacxa site and take a boat trip to Flores Island. Days 7/8 Hidden gems Discover the ruins of El Ceibal and Aguateca before crossing the border into Mexico. Day 9 Jungle sites Take a boat from Frontera Corozal into the jungle to Yaxchilan. See the well- preserved murals at Bonampak. Day 10 Palenque Visit the jungle palaces and temples. Days 11/13 Yucatan Travel along the peninsula to Merida, stopping to explore the lesser-visited sites of: Edzna, Uxmal, Sayil, Labna and Kabah. Days 14/15 Chichen Itza Enjoy a full-day to explore the impressive temples of Chichen Itza. Days 16/17 Tulum and Caribbean Travel to the Caribbean coast and relax on the beach. Optional trip to explore the Maya fortress of Tulum. Days 18/19 Drive to Cancun. Overnight flight to the UK.
