We travel from the Imperial city of Fes by train to Marrakech and into the Atlas Mountains. Staying in traditional ‘riads’ we ride mules into the hills, walk through cedar forests, practice some typical Berber sports and enjoy a Moroccan cookery lesson.

Day 1 Fly to Fes. Day 2 Fes Explore the medina and souks of the world’s most complete Islamic medieval city. Shop for ingredients and learn to prepare a traditional Moroccan dish. Day 3 Cedar Forests A day trip from Fes to walk among the tranquil lakes and cedar forests of the Middle Atlas mountains, stopping to enjoy a picnic lunch. Day 4 Marrakech Express Take the train through Casablanca to one of the world’s most evocative cities. Travel into the Atlas Mountains. Day 5 High Atlas From the riad base, explore Berber villages, learn to prepare Moroccan mint tea and ride a mule to the tiny settlement of Sidi Chamharouch. Day 6 Berber Sports On the southern slopes of the Atlas spend a night camping and practice a range of berber pastimes including bowling and shot-put. Day 7 Marrakech Discover the souks, medina and monuments of this renowned city. Enjoy a farewell dinner and visit the celebrated Djemma El Fna square – full of musicians, story-tellers and acrobats. Day 8 Fly to the UK.

Day 1 Fly to Marrakech. Day 2 High Atlas Drive into the mountains and ride mules to the remote village of Tourza. Day 3 Ait Ben Haddou Hike in the valleys of the southern Atlas. Day 10 Essaouira Drive along the coast and relax among the white- washed walls of this old Portuguese port, exploring the medina and sandy beaches.
