OUR PICK OF THE RANGE 2008 1.2 PureTech GT Line
OUR PICK OF THE RANGE 308 Allure 1.2 PureTech 130
Peugeot 308
Peugeot’s mid-size hatchback has plenty of French chic, but there are also some features that might not be to everyone’s taste. Most noticeable is the smaller-than-average steering wheel, which might seem strange at fi rst, but is very nice to drive with and off ers a view of the instruments that puts them closer to the driver’s line of sight to the road. The rest of the cabin is minimalist thanks to many functions being incorporated into a large touchscreen. In the rear, space isn’t the most generous, but the 470-litre boot makes up for this somewhat. You can also have an estate version, which looks great. Regardless of body type, the 308 is very comfortable to drive and feels composed on all surfaces. For the sportier driver, there is the 308 GTi, available in either 250- or 270hp versions. Its 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine is an absolute cracker, as is the chassis. Purposeful if a little subtle in the design department, this remains one of the most attractive looking hot hatches on the market today.

Peugeot 2008
Peugeot’s popular small crossover came in for some updates in 2016, along with the addition of a new, better equipped ‘GT Line’ specifi cation to top off the range. This model gets extra protective cladding around the bumpers, sills and wheel arches for a more SUV-like look. As well as a visual nip and tuck, which includes new grille and lights, the functional aspect of the 2008 was improved. Notably, boot space has been increased to 410 litres - up from 350 litres. Although there are no all-wheel drive models off ered, Peugeot does provide its AllGrip system that gives the front wheels improved traction in slippery conditions. The 2008 handles well on the road in general, feeling more car than crossover, which most buyers will appreciate.
Peugeot 508
While the Peugeot 508 might not be the most popular car in the D-segment it is one of the most underrated. Its sophisticated styling features some nice touches and inside the cabin is well presented and fi nished to a high standard. In addition to the saloon, the 508 is also available as an estate, both of which off er generously sized boot space at 473 and 512 litres respectively. Adding to the estate line-up is the 508 RXH, with more rugged styling and a raised ride height. The 508 drives well and feels refi ned on the move, helped by a choice of 1.6- and 2.0-litre diesel engines. One of Peugeot’s strong points is the specifi cations off ered, which often adds more standard items than its rivals.
