Ford EcoSport
The Ford EcoSport is a compact SUV that struggles to excel in any one particular area. From its awkward styling to the average interior and front-wheel drive only setup, the EcoSport is little more than a raised Fiesta without the same quality fi nish.
The side-hinged rear hatch limits access, too, especially if you’ve reversed into a parking space. It’s not all bad with the EcoSport though, as performance-wise it is available with the 125hp three-cylinder EcoBoost petrol engine that has a good combination of fuel economy and power. Ford also off ers some features that aren’t too common in the segment such as a heated windscreen option, while satellite navigation can also be added to the specifi cation.

Ford Kuga
OUR PICK OF THE RANGE Kuga 1.5 TDCi ST Line
For 2017 the Kuga range has been revamped. Cosmetic changes to the front and rear of the SUV give it a more of a resemblance to the larger Ford Edge. New trim lines, ST Line and Vignale, give two diff erent looks to the standard Kuga. Technical highlights include a new 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine with 120hp and a front- wheel drive
transmission. All-wheel drive is taken care of by Ford’s clever
system that decouples the rear wheels when there are suffi cient grip levels, helping reduce fuel consumption.

Topping off the Ford SUV range is the Edge, with an American infl uence to its styling. Its high price sees it going up against more premium rivals, so with that in mind Ford has upped its game and off ers a Sport model in addition to the standard version. Later in 2017 a more luxuriously equipped Edge Vignale will arrive in Ireland. Although it costs more, the 210hp model does have much better performance, particularly when matched up with the six-speed automatic transmission. Its ride quality is fi rmer than some of the competition and the Edge only comes in a fi ve-seat confi guration, which does limit it in this part of the
market when many now off er seven seats as an option.
