Editor’s welcome Apassioncars for

Welcome to the latest Auto Ireland Guide to New Cars, focusing on the 171 period of new car registrations

N

o other Irish publication so comprehensively covers every single new car on sale in Ireland, and what’s

more, Auto Ireland has been doing so for over twenty years now. The support of First Citizen Finance has

been invaluable, and never in the history of motoring in Ireland has the subject of car fi nance been more relevant to the times we live in. Irish car buyers have cottoned on to the benefi ts, in particular, of PCP (Personal Contract Plan) motor fi nance, and I think it’s going to play a large part in stabilising new car sales in the coming years. We’ve had a great year for the motor industry in 2016 and while most are talking down growth for this coming year, I’ve spoken to many optimistic car buyers already planning their next purchase. Consumer confi dence remains strong and that’s half the battle for the industry and indeed the economy as a whole. On a personal note, I’d like to say what a privilege it is to take over the reins of a title

Auto Ireland 2017

with such heritage as Auto Ireland. It’s no exaggeration to say that the magazine was brought to greatness by the passion and dedication of our dear departed colleague, Brian Foley and his wife Mary. Like Brian, I am a complete car nut and I hope that I can continue to infuse the magazine with enthusiasm for the subject. I feel fortunate to be one of the few full-time motoring journalists in Ireland, earning a living from doing something I dearly love. To that end, my team and I drive literally

hundreds of new cars every year to help form our professional opinions. Hopefully our knowledge and experience will assist the 150,000 or so new car buyers that’ll drive away in a new motor this coming year. We’ve simplifi ed the layout of the magazine,

partly to keep things fresh, but also because the car makers insist on reinventing the market segments, so it’s no longer as easy to pigeonhole models as it used to be. Within, you’ll discover succinct expert reviews of each and every new car on sale, arranged by

manufacturer alphabetically, with pricing and technical specifi cations easily to hand on the same pages. We hope you enjoy reading it (and referring

to it time and again throughout the year) as much as we enjoyed putting it together. If you have suggestions for the next edition, we’d be delighted to hear from you. Happy motoring!
