Audi A4
Competition in the junior executive segment is tough, but the Audi A4 has always excelled and the current model tops the class. That’s thanks to exceptionally high quality and refi nement. Its looks may be more evolutionary than revolutionary, but its proportions still make this one attractive looking car. Unsurprisingly, the A4 looks its best in the sportier S line specifi cation. The Avant estate body style adds 25 litres more space with the rear seats up than the saloon, and a huge 1,510 litres
LClass
with the seats down. Additionally, there is the off -road themed A4 allroad quattro variant to consider. It gets a slightly raised ride height, beefed-up bumpers, side skirts and wheel arches, along with quattro all-wheel drive and a choice of 2.0- or 3.0-litre diesel engines. The rest of the range can be specifi ed with 1.4- or 2.0-litre petrol engines, though the 2.0-litre diesel is, by far, the most popular. At the top of the line-up is the S4, powered by a 3.0-litre petrol engine with 354hp.

Though the A1 is the smallest car that Audi produces it feels no less premium than its larger vehicles. If you plan on taking more than one passenger with you regularly, the A1 Sportback is the one to choose, though both three- and fi ve-door versions look great. Among the stylish features is the option of a contrasting roof colour, and there is no shortage of vibrant paintwork options to choose from. Inside, it’s possible to add extra colour to the air vents and centre console, too. While the SE spec gives little cause for complaint, the S line grade enhances the A1 no end. Buyers can choose from either 1.4- or 1.6-litre diesel engines, or a 1.4-litre petrol, but the real star of the range is the 1.0-litre petrol. It may be small, but it perfectly suits the nimble A1. If the regular A1 range isn’t quite enough to get your pulse racing, the Audi S1 is powered by a 231hp 2.0-litre petrol engine with quattro all-wheel drive.

Audi A5
A brand new Audi A5 hits the market for 2017. The exterior is sharper than ever and the interior is simply gorgeous. Those keen on the wind-in-your- hair experience will relish the prospect of the equally-new A5 Cabriolet. It uses a traditional fabric roof arrangement that can be lowered or raised at speeds of up to 50kph. Audi’s diesel engines are likely to be popular here; however, there are some interesting petrol versions to consider, including a 2.0-litre TFSI unit with 190hp. Further up the range are the particularly sporting S5 models. These can be distinguished by a signature quad exhaust system and brushed aluminium door mirrors. Power for these comes from a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine producing 354hp, while quattro all-wheel drive and a Tiptronic automatic transmission are standard.
