The fi rst generation of Range Rover Sport was a strong seller for the brand, but it was a heavy car. This current model is signifi cantly lighter and gets the latest range of diesel and petrol engines, including a 2.0-litre diesel that off ers broadly similar performance to the entry-level 3.0-litre unit - with better fuel economy. All models include Land Rover’s proven all-wheel drive transmission, which adds genuine off -road ability and decent on-road handling. Want to go one step further? The Range Rover Sport SVR is a fl ame-spitting 550hp V8-powered performance model that focuses on delivering phenomenal performance. The Range Rover is virtually unrivalled in its sheer luxury and refi nement on the move. Its vast size provides a commanding view of the road, towering over most other SUVs. That height has its advantages too if you dare to venture off -road, as its ability to tackle challenging conditions and terrain is as impressive as its interior comforts. Two body lengths are available (as if the regular model wasn’t quite large enough) and the long wheelbase version off ers limousine-like levels of legroom in the rear. Even though it is vast in size the Range Rover can cover ground at a brisk pace while remaining surefooted. The TDV6 may be the base engine, but it still delivers more than enough performance for the average driver. A more powerful SDV6 model increases power output to 354hp.
