OUR PICK OF THE RANGE RC 300h F Sport

Lexus GS

OUR PICK OF THE RANGE GS 450h Luxury

The Lexus GS has real presence on the road thanks to its very distinctive front-end styling. But move past that and you fi nd a saloon that is as well-proportioned as it is luxurious. Its comfortable seats set you up for each journey; press the start button and the steering wheel moves towards you electrically; before you then pull away in hybrid-enabled silence. The 300h relies on a 2.5-litre petrol engine, while the 450h uses a 3.4-litre six-cylinder engine that has a lovely sound to it. While it can return good fuel economy fi gures offi cially, that model’s hybrid system is designed to boost performance rather than drive around on battery power alone.

Lexus RC

The Lexus RC coupe is the Japanese company’s answer to the Audi A5 and BMW 4 Series. Available with both conventional and hybrid powertrain options, the RC off ers a refi ned driving experience that is more about high quality than high performance. The 2.0-litre turbocharged 200t model is faster (slightly) than the hybrid option, but it also comes with a much higher price, so choose carefully. Costing more than twice the price of the entry level RC is the raucous RC F. Powered by a 5.0-litre V8 engine, this rear-wheel drive coupe produces 477hp and blasts to 100kph in just 4.5 seconds. And it sounds incredible.

Lexus RX

In this latest RX, Lexus has broken the SUV mould to create something that looks like a concept car that just rolled off a motor show stage. Its futuristic looks outside are matched with a genuinely premium quality interior. Large 12.3-inch infotainment screens and stereo buttons that feel as if they belong to a very high-end stereo all make the RX feel special. While the presence of a V6 engine in the 450h and combined 313hp might suggest massive performance, it is more about travelling in real comfort with low down shove helped by the electrical system. It will still reach 100kph in 7.7 seconds from rest, though most buyers will be keener to enjoy the offi cial 5.3 litres/100km consumption without having to experience a noisier diesel.
