SEAT Arona/Ibiza – LATE 2017 SEAT is already seeing success with its first SUV, the attractive Ateca, and it aims to swiftly follow up with its second, the Arona, based on the all-new Ibiza hatchback. We’ll see both before the end of 2017.


Skoda Yeti – 2018 The Skoda Kodiaq has just entered the


market, and we expect it to be a real hit. Skoda will follow it up in 2018 with an all-new Yeti crossover, replacing a car that’s always been a firm favourite of ours.


Volkswagen Arteon – 2018 First it was the Passat CC, then the CC and


Honda Civic


Honda Civic – MID 2017 Honda has already revealed its tenth


generation Civic hatchback and it will reach Irish shores in the coming months. It’s quite a departure from the previous two iterations in style terms, with a less upright design. As before, there’ll be an efficient 1.6-litre diesel engine, though new to the line-up will be turbocharged 1.0- and 1.5-litre petrol options that may tempt low-mileage drivers. And of course there’s going to be a tyre-shredding new Civic Type R hot hatch as well.


Jaguar XF Sportbrake –


LATE 2017 In spite of the world’s obsession with SUVs, in some parts of Europe (not Ireland), estates are still very popular, which is why Jaguar is developing an estate version of its XF saloon. As before, it’ll be called the Sportbrake and should be a great balance of space and style.


Jeep Compass – MID 2017 Given how important to Jeep’s success in


Europe the new Compass is, very little has been said about it as yet. This is Jeep’s rival to the Nissan Qashqai, Hyundai Tucson, etc. and it’ll arrive in Ireland in a few short months.


Kia Stinger – 2018 Kia is a brand on the up, and next on its list of


things to do is a proper sports car. We’ve had a series of concept cars and, more recently, a few tantalising details about the production model - such as 0-100kph in just 5.1 seconds. Should be interesting.


Land Rover Defender – 2018 Few vehicles live up to the word ‘icon’, but the Defender certainly does. Land Rover will launch an all-new one in 2018 and we don’t envy it trying to create a modern car that still fits the rugged remit so beloved of the original.


Renault Koleos


Renault Koleos – MID 2017 The Renault Koleos has already gone on sale


in some countries, and as it’s based on the Nissan X-Trail SUV (though with only five seats, we believe), there are no real surprises. It will sit at the top of the Renault line-up.


E-Class Coupe


Volkswagen T-Roq – 2018 Although we don’t know for sure what


Volkswagen’s new baby SUV will be called, the smart money goes on ‘T-Roq’, following on from the open-topped T-Cross Breeze concept car. We don’t expect a convertible version.


Volkswagen Tiguan XL – 2018 A seven-seat SUV seems to be a glaring omission in the Volkswagen line-up, and it’ll be remedied by 2018 by a longer, larger version of the Tiguan. AI

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe/Cabriolet –


MID 2017 Following on from the very attractive style set by its S-Class and C-Class coupes, Mercedes has just revealed what the E-Class Coupe will look like – and we think it’s the best of the lot. It’ll feature a wide range of engines, the company’s latest autonomous driving tech and a gorgeous cabin. Expect the open-topped Cabriolet variant to follow closely behind.


now the slinkier, sexier variant based on the Passat mechanicals will be called the Arteon. Definitely worth considering alongside established premium saloons from Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and others.
