OUR PICK OF THE RANGE Jetta Highline 2.0 TDI 110 DSG

Volkswagen Touran

OUR PICK OF THE RANGE Touran 1.6 TDI Comfortline

Got a few kids? The Volkswagen Touran is one car that ought to be on your shopping list if you’re in the market for a seven-seat MPV. Optimising space and functionality, the Touran can off er seating for up to seven yet in seconds can be transformed into a van, for those fl at-pack furniture shopping excursions. Even though the Touran is all about carrying people, the roomy Volkswagen doesn’t neglect the driver. On the move, it is comfortable and refi ned, with road noise reduced to a minimum thanks to plenty of sound insulation. Even with its diesel engine, the Touran quietly cruises along.

Volkswagen Jetta

The Jetta remains one of the lesser-known cars in the Volkswagen range, but we think it’s a bit of a hidden gem. It is essentially a saloon version of the Volkswagen Golf, although it doesn’t quite feel as refi ned on the move. Nevertheless, compared to other similarly-sized saloons in the segment, the Jetta performs very well. Go for a Highline model with some stylish alloy wheels and the Jetta is every bit as handsome as the better-known Golf. More likely to be popular with business users, the 2.0-litre TDI comes in 110- and 150hp versions including the option of the DSG automatic transmission.

OUR PICK OF THE RANGE Scirocco 2.0 TDI DSG Sport

Volkswagen Scirocco

Although the Volkswagen Scirocco may be getting on a bit in years, its handsome looks have aged remarkably well, earning it a signifi cant number of admirers over its lifetime. It might not be the most practical of cars, with rear seats that are far from spacious, but the Scirocco still has plenty of appeal. Its handling and performance will keep those who want a sporty car happy, but don’t expect the kind of precision you might fi nd from a Porsche. The 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine is pleasant enough, though many will prefer the torquey nature of the 2.0-litre TDI diesel, even if it is that bit less aurally appealing.
