OUR PICK OF THE RANGE Soul 1.6 EX
OUR PICK OF THE RANGE Venga 1.4 EX diesel
Kia Venga
The Kia Venga might not take up much space on the road, but inside it does off er a surprisingly good amount of room for passengers. Up front there is decent visibility, helped by an extra side window and Kia has tried to fi t in as many storage bins and cubbies as possible. In the back, there is plenty of space, helped by a fl at fl oor, which is unusual and it makes it a bit more comfortable for the middle seat passenger. The seat backs in the rear can also recline, which is handy on longer journeys. With three diff erent engines listed for the Venga, you might think you’re spoilt for choice, but the 1.6-litre petrol automatic comes with a high price and motor tax bill while the 1.4-litre petrol doesn’t fare much better. That leaves the 1.4-litre diesel, which, although noisy when pushed, is best suited to this car.
Kia Soul
As crossovers go, the Kia Soul is certainly one of the more interesting designs. Its silhouette might not be a million miles from that of the Skoda Yeti, but the Soul is a fun and quite unique car that is ideal for someone that wants something diff erent. Beneath the distinctive exterior is a tall, roomy cabin that has a more interesting layout than the rest of the Kia range. Mechanically it isn’t anything special, using the same 1.6-litre diesel engine that is familiar to much of the Kia line-up and going against it are the high emissions of 127g/km, meaning it is more expensive to tax than many other mainstream crossovers.

Kia cee’d
Kia’s fi ve-door hatchback may face stiff competition but with its keen pricing and lengthy warranty the cee’d makes for a compelling package. In all, three engines and three diff erent trim levels are available, although the 1.0-litre petrol engine only comes with the sporty looking GT Line specifi cation. It is an impressive engine nonetheless and worth considering. Inside, the cee’d has a simple and well-laid out design that is intuitive to use. The multi-function steering wheel is a bit busy, featuring lots of buttons, but this, along with other main touch points,

has a quality feel to it. On the slightly larger side is the Kia cee’d Sportswagon estate, off ering up to 1,642 litres of boot capacity. Looking more like a stretched version of the hatchback rather than a large boxy estate, this could be ideal for those with large pets or for transporting family and friends with sports gear. If you want something a little sportier looking there is the Kia pro_cee’d, a sleeker three-door version that comes only in GT Line specifi cation. Just the 1.6-litre diesel engine is available with in model, which produces 136hp and 280Nm of torque.
