It may now be getting long in the tooth, but the Audi A6 remains every bit as desirable as the day it was launched. With both front- and all-wheel drive versions available, as well as a host of engines to suit virtually every budgetary and performance requirement, the A6 is understandably one of the most popular models in its segment. Inside, its interior is starting to show its age, though. Yes, it does still have high levels of fi t and fi nish, but even compared to newer Audi models, it no longer looks cutting- edge. Still, that interior does off er plenty of space. Audi has always had a deft touch when it comes to producing desirable estate cars and the A6 Avant is no diff erent. For those who like to venture further off the beaten track, there is the A6 allroad quattro, which off ers greater ground clearance and added bodywork protection. Topping them all, and a car you should put on your ‘Lotto Win List’ is the RS 6 Avant: with up to 605hp, this is one estate that even supercars will struggle to keep up with.
Audi A7 Sportback
The styling of the Audi A7 Sportback is best described as ‘divisive’. Its sleek fi ve-door coupe-like silhouette suggests a sporty nature, although this car is more about luxury than outright performance, discounting the ludicrously quick RS 7 Sportback, of course. That can be had in time- warping 605hp guise if your pockets are deep enough. While only diesel engines are off ered in the ‘regular’ A7 Sportback range, the most powerful version does still transmit a deep rumble into the cabin as the world outside passes by rapidly. The A7 may lack the spaciousness of the A6, and that sloping hatchback doesn’t provide for quite as huge a boot, but it is far more desirable than the conventional A6. It has few genuine rivals either, the nearest being the Mercedes-Benz CLS.

If you like to drive in, or be driven in, the utmost luxury then the Audi A8 will be one car defi nitely on your shopping list. At 5.1 metres in length, it isn’t small and that’s before you consider the long wheelbase version. The A8 is available with a huge list of high-tech features including Audi’s Matrix LED headlights that adapt and change the high beam without dazzling other drivers. Buyers can have 22-way electrically adjustable seats to help further soften the already exquisitely isolating ride. But the fl agship Audi saloon doesn’t quite off er as many new gadgets and toys as the BMW 7 Series, for example, though there is a high-performance S8 version. Should you want to combine both refi nement and performance, Audi has a happy medium – the A8 W12 has a 6.3-litre 12-cylinder engine that is capable of pushing the big luxury saloon along as quick as many a sports car.
