BMW 2 Series Coupe/Convertible The smallest of BMW’s coupes doesn’t feel
any less ‘BMW’ than its larger siblings. Its neat proportions and contoured bodywork make this a great looking car in both coupe and convertible forms. Even though it has two rear seats, this is more of a ‘2+2’ than fully-fl edged four-seater. It handles rather well, as you’d hope, with a ride that isn’t too fi rm given its sporty looks. A good spread of engine options is available too, with torquey diesels proving popular amongst buyers in Ireland. For something with a bit more bite there is the M240i, powered by a 340hp 3.0-litre petrol engine, though for the ultimate in driving fun, there is the BMW M2. Power grows to 370hp and some trick chassis setup turns this into one of the best driver’s cars on sale today. At any price.

OUR PICK OF THE RANGE M240i Coupe
BMW 3 Series A stalwart of the BMW range, the 3 Series embodies the comfort and luxury (depending on specifi cation) of a saloon without taking driving pleasure away. Its rear-wheel drive layout helps create near-perfect balance. The 3 Series is popular with business users too, and naturally enough it has a strong range of economical diesel engines. Nonetheless, the petrol versions should not be ignored automatically, even if they come with higher rates of motor tax, with
one exception - the 330e iPerformance, a plug- in hybrid model that is well-priced and good to drive. The interior of the 3 Series is well fi nished, especially in the higher ‘Luxury’ trim level. If you need more room there’s a Touring estate version or alternatively the 3 Series Gran Turismo, eff ectively a 3 Series hatchback. If you prefer your 3 Series to have greater performance then the M3 will appeal. With up to 450hp, this is one rapid saloon.
