Honda HR-V


Unlike its boxy predecessor, the current HR-V is all about curves; from the sculpted fl anks to the coupe-like roofl ine, it’s a head-turning machine. That shape hasn’t diminished Honda’s ability to eke out as much interior space as possible, so the HR-V is still a practical thing, helped by its fold up rear seats that allow taller objects to be carried easily. It’s powered by a choice of 1.5-litre petrol or 1.6-litre diesel engines, and the latter is our pick for ease of driving and the tax saving and economy it brings, though if you want an automatic you’ll have to settle for petrol power. Honda’s usual entry-level specifi cation off ering is generous, including as standard alloy wheels, climate control, city braking, cruise control and much more.


Honda NSX


The original NSX is now an icon, but the years since Honda blew the sports and supercar marketplace open with its ‘New Sports eXperimental’ have seen the world change dramatically. The cabin is still laid out for ease of use and decent visibility, but the drivetrain is pretty far removed from that original. The new NSX is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine, mated to three electric motors and a nine-speed automatic transmission. That


allows the NSX to be everything for everyone, with Porsche 911 Turbo bettering acceleration, huge cornering ability and, most surprisingly, a drive that’s not dominated by the technical arsenal powering it all. Indeed, given its make-up, it’s remarkably conventional to drive. Shame then the interior feels so cheap, as the rest of it is impeccably engineered. Even so, it’s unlikely to make the impact its predecessor did.
