The Pulsar is Nissan’s alternative to the more popular C-segment models such as the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf. Given the company’s runaway success over the years with the Qashqai crossover, the Pulsar has largely been overshadowed. On paper, it scores well, with a 385-litre boot (that grows to 1,395 litres with all seats folded), a spacious interior, good choice of petrol and diesel engines (some of which consume as little as 3.6 litres/100km) and it scores well in the EuroNCAP for safety with a full fi ve-star rating. Despite this, the Pulsar just simply isn’t as involving to drive nor does it match the ride quality of other key players in the segment. Lacking too is the quality of some of the materials used in the cabin, though it does undercut many rivals on price.
