Clitheroe Advertiser & Times, May 13th, 2004 ’ Reward offered

A REWARD is being offered for the return of a distinctive stone bust, stolen from the root of a house in Billington. The well-known local feature depicts

the head of a Quaker, bearded and wear ing a wide-brimmed hat. It was on the roof of Warwick House -

a Quaker meeting house until around 150 years ago. The current owner, Mr Barry Forester,

is offering a £100 reward for its safe return. He believes it would have needed at least two people, using ladders to man handle it from the roof in broad daylight last Friday, May 7th. It stanch about two feet high and would

be a considerable weight. Anyone with information should phone

Clitheroe police on 01200 443344 or Mr Forester on 07771621148.

Celebrations in store as school group wins again

by Faiza Afzaal

BUSINESS-MINDED pupils from Ribblesdale High School Technology College have done it

again. The school’s Young

Enterprise company,

“Lodestar,” is in a celebrato ry mood after winning the final presentation at the Hyndburn and Ribble Val ley Area Board Innovation Awards 2004 ceremony. There are 25 Ribblesdale

pupils involved in the com pany, which has produced hand-crafted storage solu tions for various items from spice jars to letters. The team have a lot to

boast about as, earlier this year, they won the interim presentation and the French language competition called “Three minutes to con vince”. The company not only

competed against 11 other native French-speaking

teams in Brussels, but suc cessfully performed in front of a 500-strong audience,

making them European champions! At the Innovation Awards

function, the firm also col lected the export and mar keting awards, the chair man’s award and the award for the best ivritten report,. These made them overall

winners and enabled them to go on to the East Lan cashire Final to be held this month. Commenting on the hard-

earned prize, the school’s' Young Enterprise Link teacher, Mr Neil Ashworth, said: “This is a fantastic achievment not only for the school, but for the Ribble Valley itself. “Despite having exams

throughout the year, pupils worked very hard and put a lot of effort into all their presentations.” Our picture shows the

winning team. (C040504/8)
