WRITTEN in the community for the community, the Clitheroe Advertiser and Times is intensely proud of its roots and its loyal readership which, we are pleased to say, has grown in recent months. In March, our newspaper
witnessed one of the biggest changes in its history as it became a quality “compact.” Each week, some 10,000 copies
drop through letterboxes, change hands over newsagents’ counters and, ultimately, provide a good read for many thousands of Ribble Valley residents. In addition, several hundred copies are eagerly awaited overseas, and many more people catch up with the news in their home town via our award- winning . on-line Internet site:

Established in 1868, the seeds of
the present newspaper were sown when Mr John Cowgill began a small newsagency and jobbing printers in Castle Street, situated on the site now occupied by Boots the chemists. He began the town's first weekly newspaper, "The Clitheroe Advertiser," and printed it at the back of the shop. The business grew and in 1920 merged with . a rival publication, "Clitheroe Times" - hence the birth of the "Clitheroe Advertiser and Times." Today we have a team of 13
village correspondents whose valued contributions, large or small, to our three weekly pages of village news ensure that we offer unrivalled coverage. Our CAT office team, based at 3
King Street, Clitheroe, comprises myself as editor, news editor Duncan Smith, reporters Julie Wintle, Faiza Afzaal, Natalie Cox and editorial secretary/feature writer Marcia Morris. Advertising is dealt with by our category sales manager Lisa Rudgyard-Stenson, with our front office team, Maureen Brown and Susan Redding. The pages of our newspaper are
designed and made up at East Lancashire Newspapers' head office in Burnley where sub-editor Shirley Whiteley strives to ensure that the Ribble Valley's news and pictures are presented in an easy- to-read, customer-friendly format.
