THOUSANDS of British motorists who are desperate to keep their driv ing licences are fitting radar detectors to
their cars in the hope of avoiding the ever- increasing number of speed cameras on our roads. Radar detection sales in the UK have increased by 122% this year, according to a recent survey. The situation is becoming quite serious for
many, as 268,000 drivers are currently banned from driving in the UK and millions of pounds are being paid out in speeding fines. The consequences of losing your driving
^ licence can be very severe, including loss of job and the ability to earn a living. The survey, carried out by Car Parts
Direct, found that 82% of drivers who are now banned as a result of speeding thought they were driving safely at the time of their offence.
®
AS the sounds of summer are heard more often - “Are we there yet? Are we
there yet?” - it is also time to check the state
of your tyres before you set out on extended journeys.
Michelin has issued some helpful guideline
to motorists and the key areas to check are: • Your tyres tread depth. It should be a
minimum of 1.6mm. ® For cracks, especially in caravan and
\ trailer tyres. Replace old damaged tyres. ® That tyres are at the correct pressures
for the loads you are carrying. • ® Spare tyres are inflated to the maximum
pressure recommended for the vehicle. • Stones stuck in tyre tread are removed. ® To remain vigilant and check tyres dur
ing your trip.
^ WHEN speed traps are set at ridicu lously low levels you cannot be sur
prised when unlikely victims fall prey to them. Traffic officers in Marbach, Germany, caught a dog travelling at nearly three times the limit. The speed trap was set at a mere 5- m.p.h. when Bonzo hurtled through at 14 m.p.h.

Motorshow was magic!
HUNDREDS of motor enthusiasts compared notes on vehicle makes and models of all prices, shapes and sizes on Sunday. The crowds turned out to attend the Ribble Valley
Motorshow '04 at Mitton Hall Country House Hotel. With retail stands inside the centuries old building and
car dealers outside, there was something for everyone. Coinciding with Father's Day, the show ensured that male members of the family were able to take a close look at cars many only dream about. Opened by comedian Jim Bowen, the event was organ
ised in conjunction with the Clitheroe Advertiser and Times and the Valley magazine.
