Sheep baa-ck for festival!

SHEEP of all shapes and sizes have appeared in the streets, parks, shops and homes of Ciitheroe for the second
Kibble Valley SheepFest. Organisers reported that it had been a
huge success with more support than last year. They were particularly delighted by the involvement of junior schools whose creative exhibits have been grazing in the
Castle grounds. At the Chatburn entrance to the town,
visitors could not fail to be impressed by Ciitheroe Community Hospital's "Cas- Wool-ty" exhibit which was staged in the hospital grounds. Many traders joined in the good
humoured festival and even the milkmen joined in the fun, with the front of Roger Sugar's float decorated mth a huge sheep
proclaiming "Milk B ^ ." The SheepFest was staged by FoRCE - Friends of Rib- ble Valley Arts and Community Enter tainment - to coincide with Ciitheroe Great Days. Winners of the various competitions

Street. Special Award: Ciitheroe Community
Hospital for "Cas-Wool-ty". Largest Flock: Hyndburn and Ribble

BUILDING on its folk festival foundation to broaden the appeal of Great Days was a gamble that paid off for organ isers of Clitheroe’s annual arts
weekend. The folk scene remained at the
core of this year’s event, but added attractions of country and world music, swing and brass helped to bring the crowds flocking in. Great Days spokesman Seamus
Heffernan admitted to pre-event jitters, saying he thought the Sun day night “World Music” concert might prove “a bit exotic for Ciitheroe”, a fear fuelled by disap pointing advance ticket sales. But demand soared over the
weekend, with more than 200 peo ple dancing the night away to infectious African and Cuban rhythms. “It was the icing on the cake at the end of a fantastic weekend,”

cess.” Headline stage acts included
Hank Wangford, the Old Rope String Band, the Swing Comman ders and the Doghouse Skiffle Group, while Saturday saw Ciitheroe town centre buzzing with an endless procession of street entertainment. Thrilled at the success of the
