Lancashire County Council Cabinet member for Highways and Transportation, said: "The computerised cycle should be a real laugh for everyone. “The cyclist will find he or

way of getting fit as well as get ting about quickly and safely. "Many areas of the county
now have attractive cycling routes and we are always build ing more. “Some of our routes record
more than 1,000 cyclists per day, proving that people will get out of their cars when they know th a t alternatives are practical." Lancashire County Council chairman Coun. Nora Ward - a
keen cyclist who once rode from Morecambe to Scarborough in a day - added: "Cycling is one of the best ways to get out and enjoy Lancashire's countryside. "We have cyclepaths suitable
for families and children, cyclepaths for commuting and even a 260-mile scenic route around the county. “No one can make anyone

Volunteers pull
out all the stops VOLUNTEERS at Clitheroe’s Age Concern charity shop, are pulling out all the stops to raise money by urging people to bring in their own carrier bags in a bid to cut costs. The move comes after man
ager Mrs Claire Plummer decided to cut costs so that extra funding could make the lives of older people more secure, comfortable, dignified and enjoyable. She said: “Instead of us hav
ing to spend money on pur chasing carrier bags, we would like people to fetch their own. “This way, money saved Mil
go towards the charity.” Our picture shows Mrs
Plummer with volunteers Jean Darmody and Rita Heyes, ready to kick-start the new ini tiative.
