THIS unique Rover was originally a 1938 prototype P3, hav ing already done 110,000 miles on the road. It was con structed into a single-seater in 1946 by George Mackie, Spen King, and Peter Wilks of the Rover Company, mostly from spare parts found in the company's salvage yard. . The car has been through many changes since its con
ception, not least in its engine size. Its first engine was an experimental pre-war P3 prototype
10 h.p. unit with four cylinders, followed by a 1996cc six- cylinder intended as a 14 h.p. version of the P3. It now has a 3-litre engine giving 161 b.h.p. In 1967 it achieved the fastest time of the day at VSCC
Prescott meeting, and was awarded by the Bugatti Owners’ Club the Jack Perkins Trophy for the fastest historic racing car of the season.
The car was raced for 39 years by Frank Lockhart, who achieved great success.

Spotlight on this week^s hot properties... •I--:'' » ' ' Back In flme for a great day out
THIS weekend is the time to forget about modern cars and all the gadgets which come as stan dard these days, because the classic days of motoring are about to show what real vehicle
class and style used to be about. Local people are in for a treat on
Sunday, when they have the opportu nity to enjoy a carnival of classic cars that will evoke memories of the great bygone days of British motoring. These were the days when British
car manufacturing was just begiiming, and this year’s show is sure to be a feast of fun for all fans of classic cars. The show is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and is again
organised by Pendle and District Rover Association, together with Burnley Rotary Club and staff from East Lancashire Newspapers, who have all been working extremely hard to make sure this year’s event is another huge success. Classic car fans and experts are
revving their motors in anticipation of this year’s fantastic anniversary day out at To^vneley Park, and with more than 200 vehicles on display, the scores of visitors who flock to the event will be sure of a treat. This year will feature special dis
plays from both vintage and classic British, European and American cars, and classic motorcycles will also be exhibited.
The competitors themselves will be
picking the best car in show on the day, and the guests of honour. Mayor and Mayoress of Burnley, Coun. Mar garet Lishman and Mrs Anne Kelly, will be choosing a car for their own special award. Prizes will also be awarded to cars from each individual category.
Refreshments will also be available.
Local motor dealers are once again displaying their best new vehicles, and there will be plenty of opportunities to check them out and see how the mod ern look compares to the classic and vintage designs on display. The event promises to be a grand day out for all the family, so why not head down to Towneley Hall and see for yourself?
