Large Leather Sofa Cream First Responders up and running
A FIRST Responder’s team is up and running in the Rim-, ington area thanks to the generous support of the local community.
Two defibrillators and a train ing defibrillator, which are used to shock a heart into normal rhythm, have been bought and 18 local volun teers trained to become first responders.
First Responder teams pro vide first aid care when
required untilan emergency ambulance arrives and are especially vital in remote rural locations.
Mrs Toni Parker, of Little Middop Farm, instigated the fund-raising effort at her husband, John's 60th birth day in January asking for donations rather than pre sents.
Further funds were raised through a cream teas event and raffles run by Mr and
Mrs Brian and Daphne Williamson, managers of Todber Caravan Park.
Mrs Parker has expressed her thanks on behalf of the first responders to all those peo ple who supported the fund raising effort, particularly Mr and Mrs Williamson.
Our picture shows the new first responders with their certificates and Mr and Mrs Parker standing by the defibrillators. (A090704/6)

Coun. Holgate mentioned agri cultural shows in appaling weather conditions and join ing centenarians for their birthday celebrations, her famous hat collection and the wearing of one was obligato ry even if ground conditions require wellies.
Coun. Holgate continues to serve Whalley as both a dis trict and parish councillor and she urged members to consider standing for council as it is a most interesting and satisfying role, despite the hard work and dedication required. Members ques tioned her about her most
memorable mayoral moments and she was given a vote of thanks by Anne Holmes.
The next meeting of the soci ety is on August 10 th in the Cricket Club on Chatburn Road, Clitheroe, and will start at 7-30 p.m.
There will be the opportunity to use the society’s reference material including census records. New members and visitors are welcome and peo ple considering researching their family history are urged to join for a workshop and getting started in what can be a difficult task.
A WHALLEY woman has helped to raise £2,500 for the North West Air Ambulance after completing a 100
length swimming challenge. Mrs Angie Stanley finished the spon
sored swim in an impressive 51 minutes, while her sister-in-law, Mrs Heather Booth, of Bolton-by-Bovvland, raised her share of the money by singing at a charity evening at Bolton-by-Bowland Village Hall with a special guest appearance from her nine- year-old son, Ben. The pair responded to an appeal in the
April edition of the Valley magazine, in which it was stated that 100 "Golden Angels" were needed to keep the service going. Mrs Stanley added that after seeing the article her husband Richard, who col lects milk from local farms and quite often sees the air ambulance in action, had spurred her on to take up the challenge. After raising more than double what
they had originally expected, the pair were recently invited to the North West Air Ambulance base at Blackpool to find out more about the work of the air ambulance and its crew. They were, treated to a guid ed tour by Mr Paul Crone, Granada Tele vision presenter and NWAA fund-raiser.
Mrs Stanley told the Clitheroe Advertis
er and Times how fascinating the’ trip had been, adding: "As we arrived the air ambu lance had just been called out to an emer gency, a shout, at Seascale in Cumbria, so we managed to see it in action." As well as funds raised from the "swim
and sing" event, further donations were made by Mr Alistair Howard, of Bolton- by-Bowland, and Mr Keith Pilkington, of Rimington, who both asked for donations to the NWAA instead of presents for their 30th birthdays. Mrs Stanley's cousin, Mr David Booth,
and his wife, Margaret, from Lothersdale, also asked for donations at their silver wed ding anniversary. Mrs Stanley said: "Heather and I are
very grateful to all those who have sup ported us to make our fund-raising success ful and hope that people will continue to contribute to such a worthwhile, life-saving charity." Our picture shows the pair at the air
ambulance base just seconds before it was called out on an emergency. From left to right - Mrs Stanley, Mr Brian Booth (Mrs Stanley's father), Mrs Booth and her hus band Jim. (s)
