Jean-Yves Parisot takes over as chief executive at Symrise
German personal care ingredient maker Symrise has appointed Jean-Yves Parisot to become its new chief executive. Parisot replaced Heinz-Jürgen Bertram, who
served 15 years as CEO of Symrise, on 31 March. Bertram retired after 21 years of service at
Symrise, of which 19 were served as a member of the its executive committee. Parisot (pictured) joined Symrise in 2014 and
currently oversees its Taste, Nutrition & Health business unit. He will continue to do so on an interim basis until a successor for this role has been identified. Prior to his time at Symrise, Parisot had global
leadership roles at Pfizer, Rhone Poulenc/Rhodia, Danisco, Air Liquide and the Diana Group prior to its merger with Symrise. He studied veterinary medicine and holds a
MBA degree from HEC Paris. Symrise’s supervisory board also renewed the
contract of Parisot for another four years until the end of September 2028. “We are excited that Jean-Yves Parisot, an
internationally experienced executive from within the company, will take over as CEO,” said Symrise supervisory board chairman Michael König. “In close partnership with Heinz-Jürgen
Bertram, he has successfully transformed Symrise into a leading player in taste and nutrition. Symrise will be in the best hands with Jean-Yves Parisot, and a trustful and smooth transition at the top of the company is ensured,” he added. “Heinz-Jürgen Bertram has shaped our
company decisively. Thanks to his excellent work, Symrise today is a global industry leader and a well-respected member of the DAX-40 index. He has put the Symrise product portfolio on a broad, resilient footing.” In a related development, Symrise’s cosmetic
ingredients division recorded double-digit percentage sales growth in 2023 with particularly strong results in the EMEA and Latin America regions. Sales also increased in North America and Asia-
Pacific but by a smaller, single-digit percentage. The strongest growth was posted by the sun protection business and the Micro Protection business unit. The cosmetic ingredients division is part of
Symrise’s Scent & Care segment, which generated total full-year 2023 sales of €1.752 billion ($1.9 billion), up 2.7% on the previous year. Across the group, Symrise generated total
sales of €4.73 billion in 2023, an increase of 2.4%. At €903.5m, adjusted EBITDA in 2023 was €18m lower than the previous year’s figure of €921.5m. The ongoing geopolitical crises, rising
operating costs and high volatility in our core markets had a negative effect on our profitability,” said Bertram. “We reacted quickly and immediately initiated
measures to improve the cost situation. We enhanced our portfolio very positively through targeted acquisitions and strategic partnerships.”
