Brenntag kicks off 150th anniversary celebrations
German personal care ingredient distributor Brenntag has kicked off celebrations for its 150th anniversary in 2024. Throughout the anniversary year,
Brenntag will celebrate its history with employees, business partners and all other stakeholders. The highlight of the celebrations
will take place in October, around the actual founding date, with worldwide employee events, a customer and supplier day and with an official ceremony at its Essen headquarters. Founded by Philipp Mühsam in
Berlin, Germany, in 1874 as an egg wholesale enterprise, the company expanded to London just three years later, at the time the world’s trading hub. In 1912, the company began
trading chemicals, and in 1937 it was named Brennstoff-, Chemikalien- und Transport-Aktiengesellschaft, which was then abbreviated to Brenntag.

the Frankfurt Stock Exchange since 2010 and on the DAX since 2021. “Looking back on such a long
history is a chance to reflect on the people, decisions and challenges that have shaped our company and brought us to where we are today,” said CEO Christian Kohlpaintner. “With curiosity, a great deal of
pioneering spirit, and keeping focus in times of change, we at Brenntag have always been successful to adapt to new circumstances,” he added.
Nikko cuts carbon at Japan factories
Nikko Chemicals has revealed that carbon emissions from electricity usage at its fellow Nikkol Group factories in Japan have been reduced to zero. Nippon Surfactant Industries,
with both factories in Utsunomiya and Nasu; Bergerac Japon and its facility in Nasu, as well as Kobo Dispatek at its Utsunomiya site have converted to using carbon-free power.
That means carbon emissions from electricity generation will be
reduced to zero in all factories of the Nikkol Group and its affiliate companies in Japan. This will lead to a yearly decrease of approximately 2,752 tons
compared to the levels in 2019. In addition, Nikkol Group is also
reducing power usage by installing solar panels, furthering minimizing our CO2
emissions through the
conversion of our boiler fuel, and implementing other various measures like filtering rainwater to flush toilets to minimize our environmental impact. “We will continue our efforts for
the entire Nikkol Group, in order to achieve our goal of becoming carbon neutral,” said a spokeswoman.
has developed ultrafine bubbles, ‘hydrosomes’, which are invisible to the naked eye and among the smallest ever detected. Their unique size and
concentration make them superior in the delivery of active ingredients to cells, says Hydrosome. In addition, products leveraging
hydrosomes are also said have a longer shelf life of up to 18 months or more than any other ultrafine bubble technology. The process is also sustainable with no added chemicals or consumables, and it takes very little energy to operate. Hydrosome Labs has completed a seed funding round last year and expects to close a Series A round this spring. In addition, it expects to
announce a licensing deal with a major beauty company known for its innovative technologies in the coming months. Hydrosome currently has two
granted patents, with several others recently filed, and is investing in more than 100 scientific studies, human trials, and collaborations with institutions like the University of Chicago and Cornell University.
