Renault Koleos
The Koleos caps off Renault’s SUV range, as it sits above the popular Kadjar. It has a similar look, but is clearly more substantial. Despite this, it only off ers fi ve seats, unlike its close relative the Nissan X-Trail, which can seat up to seven. Part of the reason for that is because Renault is keen to provide comfort and quality, rather than outright practicality. On higher-spec models, the Koleos is nicely fi nished, although it stops short of feeling particularly special. The cabin is quite similar to the Kadjar’s aside from some small panel inserts and gloss black surround for the infotainment. It rides well, though, and the 2.0-litre diesel engine pulls it along at reasonable pace.

Renault Scenic
Renault is often credited with having created the MPV segment and, with its latest generation of Scenic models, it has brought an element of SUV to the styling. As before, there are a fi ve-seat Scenic and seven-seat Grand Scenic models available, and both take on a more dramatic look that includes 20-inch alloy wheels as standard. By being designed with them from the outset, the Scenic’s ride quality isn’t sacrifi ced in the name of style, and Renault has worked with tyre suppliers to keep costs down. Inside, there is lots of storage including a sliding centre console and split A-pillars that reduce blind spots up front.

If Renault’s seven-seat Grand Scenic doesn’t off er enough space, there’s always the passenger variant of the Trafi c to choose from. It’s capable of carrying up to nine people and this shuttle remains practical and drives well, given its task. One of the benefi ts of the Trafi c is that, even though it has lots of space inside, it’s still compact enough to fi t in multi-storey car parks and regular-sized spaces. All the typical features are available such as Renault’s R-Link infotainment system with DAB radio, built-in satnav from TomTom and multiple 12-volt charging sockets - always an essential if you’re going to have plenty of passengers in the van with their various devices. And when more boot space is needed, the third row of seats can be easily removed.
