2018 Preview
2018 BMW 8 Series Concept
Audi A6 – Though hardly unattractive, the A6 is falling behind its BMW and Mercedes
rivals in terms of modernity and Audi will rectify that during the year by launching a brand-new car, promising sharp styling and cutting-edge technology, including semi- autonomous driving and eye-catching lighting.
Audi A1 – An all-new Audi A1 is expected this year, with an increase in size,
though keeping its distinctive yet modern appearance. It’ll use the same platform as the new Volkswagen Polo and SEAT Ibiza, but as ever will be pitched higher up the automotive food chain.
Audi Q8 and Q3 – At least two new ‘Q’ SUVs will be launched by Audi in 2018,
including a more spacious Q3 model that is further diff erentiated from the Audi Q2. A brand-new nameplate, ‘Q8’, is expected later
in the year to grace a large luxury model of the same size as the Audi Q7, but sportier in design and nature.
Audi e-tron quattro – Audi has previewed its thoughts on an electric
future for some time now, in the form of motor show concept cars and this year, fi nally, we’ll get to see a production-ready model, likely to be called the e-tron quattro. It’ll be fully electric, four-wheel drive and, we believe, a sporty looking crossover.
BMW X2, X4, X5 and X7 – BMW’s ‘X’ SUV department has a mental
couple of years ahead of it. This year alone will mark the arrival of the sporty looking X2, an all-new X4 and X5 and, topping the range, a huge and luxurious seven-seat model to be called the X7. In time, we expect high- performance ‘M’ versions of them all.

BMW Z4 – BMW brings the Z4 name back to the market this coming year, in the
form of a two-seat, rear-wheel-drive roadster, developed in partnership with Toyota. Hopefully it’ll look half as good as the concept version previewed in 2017.
BMW 8 Series – Another gorgeous concept car revealed by BMW last
year was the 8 Series, shown above, and the German company has confi rmed it’ll sire a showroom model this year, topping the fi rm’s coupe range with a luxurious and sporting vehicle that should also spawn an 8 Series Convertible and a super-fast M8.
BMW 3 Series – Last, but far from least from BMW, will be the next-generation
3 Series saloon. Expect a little more space, rear-wheel drive, lots of technology and a renewed focus on effi ciency. In time there will be a new 3 Series Touring estate, plus the spin-off 4 Series variants, of course, though they may not surface until 2019.
Citroën C5 Aircross – Already launched in China, the C5 Aircross crossover
could become the French company’s biggest seller in Ireland, as it’ll go up against the likes of the Hyundai Tucson and Nissan Qashqai. If it’s as well-rounded as the Citroën C3 Aircross, it’ll deserve to do well.
DS 7 Crossback – The DS 7 crossover is the fi rst new model to come
from the French brand since it offi cially was 4 Auto Ireland 2018
andbeyond! There are 265 new cars reviewed in this copy of Auto Ireland, but even more
set to arrive during 2018 (and beyond) that we’ve not yet had a chance to drive. Our Editor, Shane O’ Donoghue, lifts the lid on the year ahead for a peek
