Volvo V40
Compared to the rest of the hatchback segment, the Volvo V40 is one of the oldest models around, and it shows. Built on the same platform as the Ford Focus, the V40 doesn’t have the same stylish looks as the newer models in the Volvo stable. Inside, things aren’t much better, with a cluttered centre console and cheaper plastics. A variety of models are available, including the sporty looking R-Design and rugged Cross Country, but if you want to get the best value in a V40, stick to the Momentum model. Petrol engines come with a T-designation and have modest power levels. The D2 diesel off ers decent fuel economy and low emissions, making it aff ordable to run, and it costs little more than the petrol models to buy. The V40 won’t give you an exciting driving experience, but it will provide comfort.
