OUR PICK OF THE RANGE C3 Aircross Feel PureTech 110
Citroën C3 Aircross The world has gone compact crossover mad this year, which makes it tricky for any of the new entrants to truly stand out, but the Citroën C3 Aircross does. And not just because you can specify it in a lurid combination of colours. This is a well-priced, spacious, comfortable and economical car that is perfectly suited to a small family. The interior is more fl exible and more interesting looking than its rivals’ and though the petrol engines are tuned for town use, the C3 Aircross is perfectly at home on the motorway too. An impressive debutante from the French company.

OUR PICK OF THE RANGE C1 Feel 1.0 VTi 68
Ireland is such a strange market sometimes. We care a lot about value for money and low tax and running costs, yet we seem to dislike really small vehicles that are referred to as city cars in most parts of the world. They don’t come much smaller or more suited to city living than the Citroën C1, but it’s competing in a sector that is not popular at all. The C1 is cute and quirky in its own way, a cinch to drive and park and should cost cents to run, but it’s also tiny inside, a little tinny and insubstantial feeling when out on the open road.

Citroën C3
Citroën is undergoing a bit of a design revolution at present, which started with the fi rst-generation C4 Cactus. That car’s rugged, but curvy style has been carried over to the Fiesta-rivalling Citroën C3, a fi ve-door hatchback that has a whiff of the crossover about it. Gimmicks include the side- protecting Airbumps and a built-in dash-cam that can be used to take scenic photos too, but the core car is good without them - it’s spacious, great over a bumpy road and economical. Petrol and diesel engines are off ered, but few superminis need diesel power these days so go for one of the smooth and perky PureTech options.
