Editor’s Choice

Ford Mustang The Mustang is one of those cars that has slipped into popular culture, so even people who know nothing about cars are aware of it. However, while it’s a famous name, it has only been offi cially on sale in Ireland for a couple of years. The arrival of 2018 sees the Mustang come in for an extensive overhaul that modernises the instantly recognisable styling and adds more safety features and technology. The

sensible buyer will go for the 2.3-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, which delivers plenty of performance without costing the Earth to run. But if you want the full Mustang experience, then it has to be the full-fat 5.0-litre V8, which gets more power, unique badging and a soundtrack that will make you the envy of other motorists. There’s a Convertible version too for the ultimate American image.

Ford GT The Ford GT is a supercar in every sense of the word. It was developed with racing in mind, and it helped Ford win the Le Mans 24 Hours on the 50th anniversary of the Ford GT40 taking victory in the endurance race. The GT delivers on road, too, with a twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine and a carbon fi bre chassis shrink-wrapped within a body that has a shape almost entirely dictated by the wind tunnel. The Ford GT is good for well over 300km/h, but as it’s designed to go racing, it’s not the easiest car to drive everyday, thanks to its hard ride, poor visibility and complete lack of storage. However, thanks to its exclusivity and racing pedigree, that’s a compromise that the lucky buyers will be willing to put up with.
