Mercedes-Benz-G-Class

Mercedes-Benz G-Class – The ancient ‘G-Wagen’ as it’s called gets a

DS 7 Crossback

separated from its parent, Citroën, and it must succeed if DS is to become viable. For what it’s worth, we think it looks good.

Ford Fiesta Active and

Fiesta ST – A new Ford Fiesta arrived in 2017 and the range will be bolstered this year by the addition of the Fiesta Active, which is a slightly more rugged looking model, and the Fiesta ST. The latter is an eagerly awaited junior hot hatch that promises to punch way above its weight.

Ford Focus – One of the most signifi cant new cars to hit the Irish market this

year will be an all-new Ford Focus hatchback. Though the current one still sells in high volume and is renowned as good to drive, it has undoubtedly slipped behind the class-leaders. The new car should bring it bang up to date.

Jaguar I-Pace – Jaguar will launch its fi rst ever all-electric model this year,

called the I-Pace, and it is making some big promises for the fi ve-seat crossover, including a 500-kilometre range and 0-100km/h in about four seconds. Watch out Tesla…

Jeep Wrangler – Jeep will reinvent its iconic off -roader for 2018 with

more technology and the promise of more refi nement. It’s still unmistakably a Wrangler, though, and we suspect its chassis will still be developed primarily for go-anywhere ability.

Kia cee’d – The competent Kia cee’d will be replaced by a new vehicle this year

and we’re expecting crossover and sporty estate derivatives to join the default fi ve-door hatchback body style in the line-up. Don’t bet against there being a hybrid option, either.

Lexus LS – Lexus continues to do things its own way, and the 2018 LS luxury

saloon is no diff erent. It looks amazing inside and out and will come with an advanced hybrid powertrain system, too.

Jaguar I-Pace in disguise Mitsubishi Pajero Sport

a two-door coupe called the Supra. Expect sporty rear-wheel-drive dynamics and possibly even a hybrid option.

Passat – A new Volkswagen Touareg SUV will be revealed later this year, though it’s not known whether it will, fi nally, go with a seven-seat layout. Along with that, we expect a facelifted Volkswagen Passat saloon. AI

Mercedes-Benz A-Class – A brand-new Mercedes A-Class range will be

launched this year, targeted with taking on the Volkswagen Golf, among others. Word is that there will be a four-door saloon as well as a fi ve-door hatchback and that it may well spawn hybrid and electric variants in time.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class

facelift – Just in time to see off a brand- new BMW 3 Series will be a comprehensively revamped C-Class range. A modest design refresh inside and out should include the latest family look, while there will undoubtedly be a big focus on technology, too. As ever, the saloon will be joined by estate, coupe and cabriolet derivatives.

Mercedes-Benz CLS – We’ve already seen the new Mercedes CLS and

though it’s not as conventionally pretty as its predecessors, it’s certainly more daring looking than the E-Class it’s based on. It will be powered by a new range of straight-six engines and come with four-wheel drive, as well.

massive overhaul this year. Saying that, Mercedes isn’t about to lose all the loyalty built up over the past nearly 40 years so don’t expect a radical change to the upright exterior. The cabin, though, should be bang up to date, while the latest Mercedes engines and technology will also be employed to good eff ect.

door – It seems a little odd that the AMG division of Mercedes is developing its own ‘four-door coupe’ when there’s already the Mercedes CLS in existence, but AMG is adamant that this will be closely aligned with its very high-performance GT cars. It may well feature hybrid power, too.

Mercedes-AMG GT four-

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport – Mitsubishi brings the Pajero Sport name back

to Ireland this year, in the form of a new seven-seat SUV that’ll sit between the current Outlander and the more rugged Pajero off -roader.

Toyota Supra – Although the name has yet to be confi rmed, Toyota’s

off spring of its partnership with BMW will launch this year and it’s widely expected to be
