OUR PICK OF THE RANGE 124 Spider Lusso

Fiat 124 Spider Mazda and Fiat joined forces for their sporty two-seat roadsters, the results being the current MX-5 and the Fiat 124 Spider. The latter draws styling infl uence from its 1966 forefather, but it’s otherwise a thoroughly modern sports car with rear-wheel drive, Mazda-sourced electrics and a quick- folding fabric roof. Under the bonnet is a

OUR PICK OF THE RANGE 500 Pop Star 1.2 69hp

turbocharged Fiat 1.4-litre engine, producing a modest 140hp, but the 124 Spider isn’t heavy, so there’s ample performance to have lots of fun. That comes thanks to a lively and beautifully balanced chassis that is quite at home on Irish back roads. Best thing about this car? It’s an occasion no matter where you’re driving.

OUR PICK OF THE RANGE Panda Lounge 0.9 TwinAir

Like the Fiat 500, the Panda is one of the few new cars on the road that is oozing charm and personality. We’re not using that to cover up its (many) defi ciencies, but despite its age, lack of space for the price and lack of sophistication by any measure, we can’t help but hanker after one. Fiat 500

Like the original Fiat Cinquecento that started life in the late fi fties, the current Fiat 500 has been long in the tooth yet beloved of its fans for the duration. When it was reinvented in 2007 as a modern car with retro styling, everyone assumed it would date horribly, but the opposite has been true and with a few minor tweaks here and there it remains as chic and desirable as ever for the man and woman about town. The 500 has something that few other cars at any price have, and that’s charm. For that, you’ll put up with the bouncy ride, cramped interior and awkward driving position. Don’t spend too much on it though, as it’s at its best lower down the line-up. Saying that, we’d understand if you were tempted by the open-topped 500C model.
