The majority of species found are common and widespread either through the South East or through the UK as a whole. Four species classed as having a Local distribution have been recorded in fours sites. No rare, notable or protected species have been recorded.
Constraints
It is important to note that whilst the surveys are designed to sample ditches and other slow flowing to still habitats, the interpretation tools (BMWP and ASPT) are designed for use within river systems. Whilst their results are relevant, any conclusions for biological water quality must be treated with caution.
The results presented within this report are based on sampling conducted in early summer on a single site visit. It is therefore likely that the invertebrate assemblages are more diverse than current results suggest. Repeated surveys throughout the year would produce a more comprehensive list of invertebrate species, and reduce the impact of seasonality on the results. However, given the results and that the survey was undertaken in the optimum period, no further surveys are deemed to be required.
