a subjective assessment that included factors not considered as part of the HSI analysis; and
Health and safety risks involved with surveying the water body. Descriptions for these unsuitable ponds are provided below.
Pond 24a comprises a stagnant, very shallow pond. The pond is 5m wide and 15m in diameter. The water quality is extremely poor and is heavily polluted by surface run-off from surrounding fields. There is no egg laying material present. The temporary nature of the pond combined with the lack of egg laying material suggests that the pond is not suitable for Great Crested Newts. The HSI analysis presented in below supports the assessment of the pond as having an extremely low likelihood of supporting Great Crested Newts.

Pond 34 is located in a garden and stocked with goldfish. The water quality was good, with a large number of aquatic invertebrates and frog spawn seen. The pond is heavily shaded with trees. The water was noticeably flowing into Pond 34a and then into the stream. The presence of heavy shading, fish and the flow of the water suggests that the pond is not suitable for Great Crested Newts. The HSI analysis presented in below supports the assessment of the pond as having an low likelihood of supporting Great Crested Newts.
