The surveys show that Great Crested Newts could be affected by the development. Therefore a Great Crested Newt development licence must be obtained to cover all areas of work where newts or their habitat might be affected.
No Great Crested Newt breeding ponds will be lost as a result of the development. Newts will therefore only be at risk in their terrestrial phase. This could include individual newts being killed by machinery, either directly or as a result of vibration. The works may also affect dispersal routes as a linear trench is dug across suitable habitat near breeding ponds.
Table 6 highlights the ponds within 250m of the cable route with Great Crested Newt presence.

Access was denied by some landowners along the Onshore Cable Route and it was therefore not possible to survey every water body. Further pre-construction surveys of these ponds should therefore be undertaken.
