This site is a valuable mosaic of scrub, and fen meadow (BAP habitat), fed by springs.
The wet areas are floristically diverse, supporting a typical fen meadow flora including a large population of southern marsh orchid and species associated with spring flushes like marsh marigold.
The grassland on the higher (drier) ground is less species diverse but is still of value to species such as Barn owl. The grassland grades into scrub which is very important for other birds, including black cap, whitethroat and nightingale.
