Three of the commoner species of reptile; Common Lizard (Zootoca vivipara), Slow Worm (Anguis fragilis) and Grass Snake (Natrix natrix) were recorded along the Onshore Cable Route during the presence/absence surveys, albeit at generally low levels in most areas.
The following 9 areas have higher number of reptiles: • Sea cliff embankment at Bawdsey - Reptile location 002; • Area of open woodland plantation – Reptile location 003; • Area of scrub and bramble – Reptile location 007;
• Drainage ditches across the Alderton and Ramsholt Marshes – Reptile locations 012, 018, 020, 021 and 041;
• River flood defence embankments – Reptile locations 022 and 023; • Railway embankment – Reptile location 043; • Large area of grass and scrub – Reptile location 045; • Area of grass, scrub and bracken – Reptile location 050; and • Roadside grass bank – Reptile location 069.
