Target Note 318. A ditch system approximately 1 to 2 m wide. The water was vey turbid at the time of survey and did not appear to support any aquatic species. Marginal vegetation was very sparse but there were some small areas of Carex acutiformis (Lesser Pond-sedge) The banks were soil with a 15o slope supporting a vegetation comprising species associated with ruderal and marsh vegetation including Phalaris arundinacea (Reed Canary-grass), Scrophularia nodosa (Common Figwort) and Urtica dioica (Common Nettle). A line of Populus species (Poplar) trees are along the southern bank.
Target Note 319. A line of 18 m recently polarded mature Populus ×canadensis (Hybrid Black-poplar).
Target Note 320. A ditch system similar to Target Note 318 with 15 m Alnus glutinosa (Alder) along the banks.
Target Note 321. A ditch running parallel to a railway approximately 30cm deep and 1.5 m wide dominated by Phragmites australis (Common Reed) with small areas of Carex acutiformis (Lesser Pond-sedge) and Typha latifolia (Bulrush). The bankside vegetation is referable to the National Vegetation Classification community OV24 Urtica dioica-Galium aparine community. Several Alnus glutinosa (Alder) saplings are present
Target Note 322. Ditch similar to 319 with larger areas of Carex acutiformis (Lesser Pond-sedge).
Target Note 323. An area Alnus glutinosa (Alder) and Salix species (Willow) carr with Carex acutiformis (Lesser Pond-sedge) and Phragmites australis (Common Reed) swamp forming the field-layer.
Target Note 324. A gappy hedge comprising Corylus avellana (Hazel), Crataegus monogyna (Hawthorn), Fraxinus excelsior (Ash), Prunus spinosa (Blackthorn), Rosa species (a Rose), Salix species (a Willow), Sambucus nigra (Elder) and Ulmus glabra (Wych Elm) with Fraxinus excelsior (Ash) and Quercus robur (Pedunculate Oak) standards.
The field-layer is dominated by ruderal herbs including Galium aparine (Cleavers), Rumex obtusifolius (Broadleaved Dock) and Urtica dioica (Common Nettle).
Target Note 325. A clipped species-rich hedge including the species Cornus sanguinea (Dogwood), Malus sylvestris (Crab Apple) and Quercus robur (Pedunculate Oak) with a field-layer dominated by Urtica dioica (Common Nettle).
