Target Note 7a. A shallow stream with a water depth of 20 cm above a small dam formed from a track crossing and 2 cm below this dam. The stream bed is formed of sand and silt. At the time of survey the stream had recently been cleared of vegetation but there were scattered emergent and marginal species such as Apium nodiflorum (Fool’s Water-cress) Epilobium hirsutum (Great Willowherb) and Nasturtium officinale (Water-cress). The banks were approximately 1.5 m in height and dominated by ruderal weeds typical of agricultural areas such as Ballota nigra (Black Horehound), Galium aparine (Cleavers), Sinapis arvensis (Charlock) and Urtica dioica (Common Nettle).
Target Note 7b. An area of Crataegus monogyna (Hawthorn) and Sambucus nigra (Elder) scrub with a field-layer of ruderal herbs such as Ballota nigra (Black Horehound) and Urtica dioica (Common Nettle). At the western end there is an 18 m mature Quercus robur (Pedunculate Oak).
Target Note 7c. A small area of woodland over a large man made depression. The canopy trees comprise Alnus glutinosa (Alder), Fraxinus excelsior (Ash) and Ulmus minor ssp. minor (Small-leaved Elm). The shrub-layer contains Crataegus monogyna (Hawthorn) and Sambucus nigra (Elder) with a field-layer dominated by Urtica dioica (Common Nettle).
Target Note 8. A road hedge about 2.5 - 4 m high and 1.5 m wide comprising mostly Crataegus monogyna (Hawthorn) with Acer campestre (Field Maple). The eastern end is very gappy and appears to have been planted relatively recently as there are still tree guards on some of the shrubs.
Target Note 8a. A road hedge of variable height consisting mainly of Ulmus procera (English Elm) suckers together with a mixture of Corylus avellana (Hazel), Crataegus monogyna (Hawthorn) and Prunus spinosa (Blackthorn). It is on a half bank which is dominated by semi-ruderal herbs such as Ballota nigra (Black Horehound) and chenopod species.
Target Note 9. Broadleaved and coniferous plantations about 20 years old dominated by Prunus cf. avium (Wild Cherry) and Pinus cf. nigra ssp. laricio (Corsican Pine), respectively.
Target Note 10. Scrub vegetation comprising a mixture of Clematis vitalba (Traveller’s- joy), Rosa canina (Dog-rose) and Rubus fruticosus agg. (Bramble) with scattered tree saplings.
