Swamp vegetation, usually dominated by Phragmites australis (Common Reed), occurs along many of the drainage ditches along the Onshore Cable Route. Extensive areas of Phragmites australis (Common Reed) swamps are described in Target Notes 185 and 210. More species rich areas of swamp vegetation are present at Target Notes 305 and 306. whilst still dominated by Phragmites australis (Common Reed) there are several associate species present including Angelica sylvestris (Wild Angelica) and Phalaris arundinacea (Reed Canary-grass) with large areas of Carex acutiformis (Lesser Pond-sedge) swamp.
3.1.10 Arable Farmland
3.1.10.1 Habitat Description The Onshore Cable Route crosses large areas of arable farmland (shown as white and labelled ‘A’ on Figures 24.2.2a – 24.2.2q many of which had recently been harvested. These fields are intersected by linear boundary features such as strips of rough grassland at field margins, ditches, drains, hedges and lines of trees, all of which form ecological corridors.
