These four ditches form a network around a field of rough overgrown pasture. They are deep ditches up to 4m deep with <15cm of water depth. Due to their depth they are fully shaded at water level from both the hedgerows that they are in and the tall grasses and herbs present on the banks.

Ditch 51 is unsuitable for Water Voles. There is no apparent channel, the area being reed bed in the high tide area of Martlesham Creek. At the time of survey the area was dry. When wet the water is likely to be brackish.
