Minisitry of Foreign Affairs of Turkish Republic had accepted my application and
funded this Forum, that Mr. Rahmi Aksungur, the distinguished Rector of the Mimar
Sinan University of Fine Arts is hosting us and that the European Cultural
Association has accepted to be my partner. I would like to express my sincere
thanks to all these people and to my partners Binnaz Tukin and Nilüfer Sülüner and
evidently I would like to thank the audience for being present here to make this
Forum meaningful and effective. The Continental Breakfast is orgaized on the
occasion of the 10th Istanbul Biennial because since 2003 most of the forums of this
network were organized either on the occasion of a major exhibition or on a biennial
like event. Let me inform you briefly about the goals and mission of this network.
What is an international cocuratorial and multidisciplinary project, mainly dedicated
to investigating the creativity and innovation in the field of contemporary visual art
and aims to become the starting point of the development of future cultural
networks in the new Europe. The project is a joint activity of the partner institutions
of central Europe and the Balkans leading to a series of exhibtions, conferences and
events spread geographically all around Europe since 2003. It really started with
dynamism and continuity since 2005. The project deals with the perception of the
other in and beyond new Europe investigating the theme of mutual recognition of a
common European identity and identifying in different European regions existing
elements that can enhance the richness of the common and original cultural identity
of Europe. It is definitely based on a joint approach to study the common cultural
foundations or historically rooted in the cultural background of different areas of
EU. This is the official statement of Continental Breakfast and it is a very critical
aspect of the cultural heritage of Europe that it should be dealt with all the partners,
countries in EU and countries like us who are still candidates. The title of the project

Kontinental Kahvalt› ‹stanbul Forumu, 10. ‹stanbul Bienali vesilesiyle düzenlendi,
çünkü 2003 y›l›ndan beri, bu acurrency1›n birçok forumu, ya büyük bir sergi, ya da bienal türü
bir etkinlik vesilesiyle gerçeklefliyor. Sizi k›saca bu acurrency1›n hedefleri ve misyonu ile ilgili
bilgilendirmeme izin verin. Kontinental Kahvalt› nedir? Kontinental Kahvalt›, esasen
çacurrency1dafl görsel sanat alan›ndaki yarat›c›l›k ve yenilicurrency1in araflt›r›lmas›na hizmet eden,
yeni Avrupa’daki müstakbel kültür acurrency1lar›n›n gelifliminin bafllang›ç noktas› haline
gelmeyi hedefleyen, uluslararas›, efl-küratörlük amaçl› ve çok-disiplinli bir proje.
Proje, merkez Avrupa ve Balkanlar’›n ortak kurumlar›n›n, 2003’ten beri cocurrency1rafi
olarak Avrupa’n›n her yerine yay›lm›fl bir dizi sergi, konferans ve etkinlicurrency1in
gerçekleflmesine yol açan ortak bir çal›flmas›. Gerçekten dinamik bir flekilde bafllad›
ve 2005’ten beri süreklilicurrency1i var. Proje, yeni Avrupa’n›n içinde ve ötesindeki “öteki”nin
alg›lan›fl›yla ilgileniyor, ortak bir Avrupal› kimlicurrency1inin karfl›l›kl› kabulü konusunu
araflt›r›yor. Farkl› Avrupa bölgelerinde, Avrupa’n›n ortak ve özgün kültürel kimlicurrency1inin
zenginlicurrency1ini gelifltirebilecek var olan öcurrency1eleri saptamay› hedefliyor. Tam olarak,
AB’nin farkl› bölgelerinin kültür ce sanat alan›nda tarihsel kökleri olan ortak kültür
kurumlar›n› incelemek ad›na birleflik bir yaklafl›m› temel al›yor. Kontinental
Kahvalt›’n›n resmi söylemi bu ve Avrupa kültür miras› konusunun mutlaka Avrupa‘y›
oluflturan tüm ortaklar, AB üyesi, yeni üyeler ve adaylar›n kat›l›m›yla ele al›nmas›
gereklilicurrency1i iflin son derece kritik bir yönü.
