Before I open the Continental Breakfast Istanbul Forum, I would like to
invite you to remember a very important person for our Continental Breakfast
Network and also a very cherished Museum Director, Curator and Art Critique
Katalin Néray who died very recently. The Ministry of Education in Hungary has
made a declaration about her, I will read a part of it:
“It is with a great a sense of loss that the Ministry of Education and Culture, the
Ludwig Museum of Contemporary Art and the family announced the passing away of
Katalin Néray after a serious illness on September the 5th, 2007 at the age of 66.
Katalin Néray the art historian, was a winner of the the Széchenyi Prize and Director
of the Ludwig Museum of Contemporary Art. From 1984 to 1992 she was the
Director of Budapest Exhibition Hall Kunsthalle before taking over at the Ludwig
Museum end of 1992. She organized hundreds of exhibitions both in Hungary and
abroad and she was the curator of the Hungarian Pavillion at the Venice Biennale
four times as well as Hungarian and/or eastern European curator of the Sao Paulo
Biennial several times. She was the first curator of Manfiesta first in 1996 and
served as the President of the Hungarian National Committee of the the Association
International des Critique d’Art AICA for ten years. She was a member of ICOM
CIMAM, IKT and of the Advisory Board of C3: Centre for Culture and Communication

Kontinental Kahvalt› ‹stanbul Forumu’nu açmadan önce, sizleri yak›n
zamanda kaybetticurrency1imiz, Kontinental Kahvalt› acurrency1›m›z için çok önemli bir kifli olan, çok
sayg›decurrency1er Müze Yöneticisi, Küratör ve Sanat Elefltirmeni Katalin Néray’› anmaya
davet etmek istiyorum. Macaristan Milli Ecurrency1itim Bakanl›currency1›, kendisi hakk›nda resmi bir
aç›klama yapt›, bu aç›klaman›n bir k›sm›n› sizlere okuyacacurrency1›m:
“Milli Ecurrency1itim ve Kültür Bakanl›currency1›, Ludwig Çacurrency1dafl Sanat Müzesi ve ailesi, büyük bir
üzüntüyle geçirdicurrency1i acurrency1›r hastal›k sonras›nda Katalin Néray’›n 5 Eylül 2007’de 66
yafl›nda aram›zdan ayr›ld›currency1›n› duyurur. Sanat Tarihçisi Katalin Néray, Széchenyi
Ödülü sahibi ve Ludwig Çacurrency1dafl Sanat Müzesi yöneticisiydi. 1992 y›l› sonunda, Ludwig
Müzesi’ndeki görevini devralmadan önce, 1984 ile 1992 y›llar› aras›nda, Budapeflte
Sergi Salonu Kunsthalle yöneticilicurrency1ini yürüttü. Hem Macaristan’da; hem de yurt
d›fl›nda, çok say›da sergi düzenledi ve birçok kez Sao Paulo Bienali’nin Macar
ve/veya Docurrency1u Avrupa küratörlücurrency1ünü üstlenmesinin yan›s›ra, Venedik Bienali’nin
Macar Pavyonu’nun da dört kez küratörlücurrency1ünü yapt›. 1996’da gerçekleflen Birinci
Manifesta’n›n ilk küratörüydü ve Uluslararas› Elefltirmenler Dernecurrency1i AICA’n›n Macar
Milli Komitesi’nin 10 y›l boyunca baflkanl›currency1›n› yürüttü. Macar Bilim Akademisi Sanat
Tarihi Komitesi’nin yan›s›ra ICOM, CIMAM, IKT ve C3: Kültür ve ‹letiflim Merkezi Vakf›
Dan›flma Kurulu’nun üyesiydi. Düzenli olarak yurt içi ve uluslararas› dergi ve
