Title of my speech is “Human After All.” I’m coming from the Institute of
Contemporary Art in Zagreb, which is an NGO, established 15 years ago. Coming
from Zagreb, I do not belong any more to a city or a country that is emerging or is
being positively present on the global map in the field of contemporary art. On the
contrary, Zagreb has diminished its role and presence in the filed, especially in
comparison to 20 or 30 years ago, and the position it once had on the contemporary
art map.
The context of where we work today is such that the whole country, which is not
really a big one, has one single public institution devoted to contemporary art, the
Museum of Contemporary Art of Zagreb, which grew up out of the city gallery, once
renowned institution. This museum is currently closed for public, as the
preparations for moving into the newly constructed building are underway.
It was originally planned that the building would be opened this month, September
2007, but the delays are making it more possible to be opened some time during
2008, the earliest.
In the whole country there is no other public institution devoted exclusively to
contemporary visual art, but either minor cultural organisations or partial activities

Benim konuflmam›n bafll›currency1› ”Eninde Sonunda ‹nsan.” 15 y›l once Zagreb´te
kurulmufl bir STK olan Çacurrency1dafl Sanat Enstitüsü’nden geliyorum. Benim çacurrency1dafl sanat
alan›ndaki küresel haritada yer alan ve geliflen bir kent veya ülkeden geldicurrency1im
söylenemez. Tam tersine, Zagreb’i yirmi-otuz y›l önce bu alandaki rolü ve varl›currency1› ile
k›yasland›currency1›nda bir zamanlar çacurrency1dafl sanat haritas›nda sahip olducurrency1u yeri kaybetticurrency1i
söylenebilir.
Bugün içinde faaliyet gösterdicurrency1imiz bacurrency1lam öyle bir bacurrency1lam ki, gerçekten de pek
büyük olmayan ülkenin bütünü, çacurrency1dafl sanata adanm›fl bir tek kamu kurumuna
sahip; o da bir zamanlar ünlü bir kurum olan kent galerisinden türeyen Zagrep
Çacurrency1dafl Sanat Müzesi. Bu müze, yeni infla edilen binas›na tafl›nma haz›rl›klar›
sürdücurrency1ü için, flimdilik halka kapal›.
Asl›nda baflta binan›n bu ay, yani Eylül 2007’de aç›lmas› planlan›yordu ama
gecikmelere bakacak olursak aç›l›fl›n en erken 2008’de bir tarihte gerçekleflmesi
olas› gözüküyor.
Ülke bütününde özel olarak çacurrency1dafl görsel sanata adanm›fl herhangi baflka bir kamu
kurumu yok, sadece baflka müze ve galerilerin küçük yan organizasyonlar› veya yan
