BRANCO FRANCESCHI: How do you have the solution to this problem? You
don’t have. So maybe the curators should have it. Are you a gallerist, curator? An
artist. OK. I organized the show curated by artists, the news was the big title in the
papers “made the curator die”. I keep it in my office. Also it’s kind of irrespect to
your lecture and my parents really were almost horrified when I told them what I
intended to study. It is not considered glamorous at all. I can really assure you that
my sexual life didn’t improve, I’m frustrated, stressed. I don’t really think that the
curators in general maybe profiting out of this experience, even the colleagues that
were having the honor to have a task to put themselves in the position of the open
where everyone can throw tomatoes at. I don’t think it’s fun at all. I had this
experience, any number of us had this experience. Have you ever participated as an
artist at the biennial? How was it for you?
GENCO GÜLAN: Just like another exhibition. I never thought of biennials as
something seperate from any other exhibition.
BRANCO FRANCESCHI: Exactly and that I believe is the point. It should be just
any other, in size better and larger exhibition.
GENCO GÜLAN: Yes, but I just want to add this. For me, the problem is never
about showing, it’s always about making. The biggest problem is not showing, it’s
always making. Showing is really something that comes much afterwards and to tell
the truth, almost irrelevant, once you’ve finished what you did. How we can show the
work is not the business of the artist.
