Marble is a metamorphic rock. It is formed when limestone is placed under great heat and pressure. In its pure form, marble is white, but it can also be green, red or black. Marble has a hard texture but can shatter if dropped. Marble is a smooth rock.
How it is used Marble is used in headstones, fireplaces, monuments, sculptures and tiles.

White marble can be found on Rathlin Island, green marble in Connemara, red marble in Cork and black marble in Kilkenny.
