Measuring Human Development Human development is as important as a country’s economic development.
The UN decides the level of human development of a country by gathering and recording information on three main dimensions: 1. Long and healthy life, indicated by life expectancy at birth 2. Knowledge, indicated by number of years in school 3. Decent standard of living, indicated by gross national income (GNI) per capita.
Using this information, the UN has developed the Human Development Index (HDI) to measure the human development of a country.
