Junior Cycle Geography CYCLONE TASK 1 You will need:
Examine the vegetation of your three chosen sites Instructions
1. A quadrat is a square frame which is placed on the ground to look at or count the number of plants or animals within it. Place the quadrat in a number of random areas inside your mapped-out 2 m square.

2. Make a note of the vegetation found in each quadrat, e.g. grass, leaves, plant life.
3. Record your findings.
4. Compile your results to see the main vegetation types for your study sites. (Refer to the results map, p. 261.)
5. Take photographs of the chosen sites.
TASK 2 You will need:
Small water bottle
Examine the texture of the three soil samples Instructions
Take a small piece of each of the samples in turn and carry out the three steps.
Sandwich bags
1. One by one, wet each of the three samples with a small amount of water and rub the wet sample between your fingers.
Pen Sticky labels
2. Record your observations. (Refer to the results map, p. 261.) 3. Take photographs of the wet samples.
